Apart from the attempt to define the term, the position for areas of success within regional development theories has been looked for. Approach to this issue is very different but most of the authors’ concepts seek to identify regions with diverse economic development, among which regions of economic growth can be considered as areas that have achieved success. Considerations on the subject were the basis for subsequent emergence of three categories of rural areas of success (centers of local success, rural areas of progression and areas of competitive agriculture).
