Sedimentation processes in dam reservoirs as exemplified by Uglich (Central Russia) and Włocławek (Poland) reservoirs

Foreign partner: Russia - Institute of Biology of Inland Waters, Russian Academy of Sciences, BorokThe aim of this project is to recognize the mechanism of depositional processes and bottom deposits characteristics in the valley type reservoirs functioning as a single reservoir (Wloclawek Reservoir - Vistula River) or in the cascade system (Uglich Reservoir - Volga River). An influence of hydrodynamic conditions on sedymentological features of bottom deposits and their spatial diversity will be defined.
Comparative analysis in investigated reservoirs will include as follows:
- estimation of magnitude and quality of clastic material supply to reservoirs from different sources (river loads, supply from the banks, bottom erosion),
- estimation of spatial differentiation of the thickness of deposits accumulated in reservoirs,
- estimation of lithological differentiation of the bottom deposits based on their composition and graining,
- estimation of the influence of the river flow and water dynamic within reservoir on the course of sedimentation processes.
In examined sediments contents of heavy metals, biogenic substances and plant pigments will be marked. On that basis the present and the past state of the degradation and the biological productivity of reservoirs will be defined.
